The crankshaft oil seal is an important part of the engine. It is usually made of rubber or silicone and has a metal and circular shape. This component is attached to the front of the engine, and it seals the end of the crankshaft together with the timing cover.

The Hazards of Crankshaft Oil Seal Leakage

Crankshaft oil seal leakage will cause engine oil loss, burning of oil, and reduced oil volume. This will aggravate engine wear and affect the lubrication effect of the engine, thereby reducing the service life of the engine. Therefore, when a crankshaft  oil seal is found to be leaking, repair it as soon as possible deal with.

Causes of Crankshaft Oil Seal Leakage

1. The crankshaft oil seal is not used with non-petroleum-based lubricants during the press-fitting process, causing the oil seal to loosen or even fall off after the engine has been used for a period of time (for example, some engine manufacturers use engine oil to replace relatively expensive non-petroleum-based lubricants in order to reduce manufacturing costs).

2. The parallelism of the rear oil seal press-fitting surface to the rear oil seal seat installation surface does not meet the technical requirements of the assembly drawing, which makes the rear oil seal lip deformed unevenly. After the engine is used for a period of time, the oil seal lip deforms or even the entire oil seal is twisted The oil seal is damaged and leaks oil.

3. The engine has a long service life, and the natural aging of the rear oil seal causes cracks at the lip to cause oil leakage.

How to Deal with Crankshaft Oil Seal Leakage?

If you find that the engine oil leakage of the crankshaft rear oil seal is very serious while driving, you should immediately inject part of the engine oil into the crankcase, and then quickly drive the car to the nearest repair station. After arriving at the car repair site, if there are auto parts that can be replaced, the rear oil seal of the crankshaft of the car must be replaced in time. But if there are no spare parts for the car, then you can remove the last crankshaft main bearing cover, carefully remove the graphite asbestos strip from the crankshaft main bearing cover, and use a flat pad of asbestos thread coated with a layer of butter on the oil seal. Inside the groove, then press the removed graphite asbestos strip on the asbestos line as it was originally, and it can be used for a short period of time after completion.
